Its official, the summer break is now over and it's back
to school for everyone! Going back to school after the holidays
can be very exciting but also quite scary especially if you
are starting a new school, going into a new class or taking
on a new subject.
Check out my tips below on how to cope with all the stresses
going back to school can bring. And remember - it won't be
long until half term!
First of all, don't worry about not 'fitting in' with people
at your new school or in your new class. Everyone has different
interests and hobbies so you are bound to meet other young
people who like the same things as you. If you are having
trouble making new friends, why not try joining a club or
sports team in school to help meet people with similar interests?
You will make friends eventually if you just be yourself,
look approachable and most importantly - smile! Everyone will
be nervous at the start of term and it will take you a while
to get settled into your new routine.
When you start secondary school or move on to college, you
may be studying subjects which you have never done before.
You may feel intimidated at the start and think you will never
be able to understand them. Just remember that lots of people
will be feeling the same as you. If you are really struggling
then it is important to talk to your parents and your teacher
as they will be able to reassure you that you are capable
and provide extra help and support to you if you need it.
Another aspect you may find unnerving especially when moving
from primary to secondary school is that fact that you may
have to move rooms several times a day and you will have several
different teachers for all your subjects. This can be a big
shock when you are normally used to having the same teacher
and class room all day.
Just take your time getting to know the layout of your new
school and stick with your other classmates and you will know
your way round in a few weeks. Learning your timetable off
by heart and having your belongings organised will help as
well.
Teachers know how hard it can be adjusting to change so if
you have any worries or issues it is best to approach them
and voice your concerns. They are trained to help and support
you and only have your best interests at heart. Enjoy your
first term back, work hard and you will reap the rewards!
