Hi folks!
It's great to have the brighter nights coming in isn't it?
It seems the long dark winter is finally coming to an end.
I don't know about you, but my superhero suit is feeling a
bit tighter after all the spuds and hearty stews I have been
eating to stave off the cold! I think it's about time I got
out in the fresh air and started doing a bit more exercise.
Here are some tips for keeping active and eating healthy...
Little spurts of activity throughout the day really add up.
Why not take the stairs instead of the lift, or use a shopping
basket instead of a trolley to work those muscles. If you
travel by bus, try and get off a stop earlier and walk the
rest of the way home. Some stretches in the morning as soon
as you get up can make you feel much more awake and energised.
A short walk after dinner can help aid digestion and stop
you feeling sluggish. And lastly, try to have a bedtime routine
and relax at least an hour before bedtime to ensure you get
a decent night's sleep. By being more active, you will sleep
better and feel fitter!
As well as keeping active, it is important to eat a well
balanced diet to keep your body in good health. I know it's
a cliché but breakfast really is the most important
meal of the day so try and make time even if it's only for
a piece of toast and some fruit. Did you know that your body
is made up of approximately 60% water? That's why it's vitally
important to keep hydrated throughout the day by drinking
plenty of water. Try to limit tea, coffee and fizzy or sugary
drinks as these can actually leave you feeling more de-hydrated!
A varied diet with a good range of fruit, vegetables, carbohydrates,
protein and dairy should keep your body in tip-top condition.
If you are eating the right types of foods, your body should
be getting all the vitamins and minerals it needs to function
properly, so you should not need to take additional vitamins
or supplements. Be careful about your salt intake as foods
can contain a lot more salt than you realise. Some breakfast
cereals can contain more salt than a packet of crisps!
Try and stick to the guide above but don't forget to allow
yourself the occasional treat. Chocolate, sweets and savoury
snacks are fine in moderation as long as you eat healthily
most of the time and get regular exercise. Follow my super
tips and you will be 'power walking' to the field on the Twelfth
this year!
