Rarely is it possible to find information relating
to the Williamite wars in Ireland without having to wade your
way through numerous books or pamphlets. Well, not any more.
A new In Your Pocket Guide to Orangeism had been developed
by the Grand Orange Lodge of Ireland to assist students and
the wider community to get a better understanding of Orangeism.
David Scott, Community Education Officer of the Grand Orange
Lodge of Ireland said, "the new compact publication is
a very colourful design using the medium of manga art to illustrate
the key characters involved with each story. It is specifically
designed to help students studying History at Key Stage II
and III and indeed should be of immense benefit for young
people studying the new Citizenship subject, now part of the
Northern Ireland curriculum, which has become part of the
statutory curriculum this year".
The publication opens out to A3 size, with the story of the
Battle of the Boyne and the Glorious Revolution on one side
and the formation of the Orange Institution following the
Battle of the Diamond on the reverse side. The reader is guided
through each part story using artistic drawings, maps and
text as a means of assisting the reader to gain a better understanding
of orangeism by addressing the myths and misconceptions people
may have about the Orange Order.
