Arson Attack On Ligoniel Orange Hall

13 April 2011

The Grand Orange Lodge of Ireland has condemned an overnight arson attack on an Orange Hall in Belfast.

Ligoniel Orange Hall has been largely unused since a previous attack approximately five years ago. Most of the building was boarded up and the Orange Order are working with the police to establish the extent of the damage caused during the night.

Members of Orange Order used a small room at the rear of the building.

A spokesman for the Orange Order said:

"What is clear, is that this is another attack on the Orange culture. It may well be an attempt to create community tension and we would urge anyone with information about the attack to contact the police so they can catch the culprits."
