Co. Down Orange Hall Vandalised

28 February 2010

The Grand Orange Lodge of Ireland has condemned vandalism at an isolated Orange Hall in Co. Down.

Annahinchago Orange Hall, near Rathfriland, was attacked over the weekend.

A steel flag pole was broken down and used to damage wire grills protecting the windows in the hall. Exterior lights and downpipes were smashed and an electricity meter was also destroyed.
The hall was badly damaged in an arson attack in 1995 and there have been other vandalism attacks on it since.

A spokesman for the Orange Order said footprints in the snow showed that there were about three or four people involved in the attack.

"This was clearly a planned attack by a number of people who would have been around the hall for five or ten minutes," the spokesman said.

"We would ask anyone in the area who saw anything suspicious to report it to the police.
