No. 9 District (West Belfast) of the Orange
Order has issued the following statement in response to the
Parades Commission determination about the Whiterock feeder
parade to the Twelfth on the morning of Saturday, July 12.
"We are appalled by the determination which
proves once again that the Parades Commission is intent on
protecting the enshrined veto of Republicans.
The determination has stipulated that our traditional
parade can go ahead but has prevented the band from playing
sacred music. We believe that the playing of sacred music
threatens or offends no-one.
The Parades Commission has stated that the Republican
protest can go as far up the Springfield Road as Isadore Avenue.
Our view is that the protest should not be allowed beyond
the Invest Northern Ireland site.
This determination is totally at variance with
the concept of "shared space." Once again the actions
of the Parades Commission have further damaged community relations. In
light of this adjudication we call on the Chairman Roger Poole
to tender his resignation with immediate effect."
