No.9 District Lodge met tonight to discuss the
determination for its traditional Whiterock Parade this Saturday.
The District Lodge reiterated its initial response that the
determination is manifestly unjust and is a clear reward for
the intransigence shown by the Springfield Residents Action
Group.
Following our regular meeting on Monday, the District and
its representatives embarked upon a series of meetings with
the wider community, the Secretary of State, the Security
Minister and the First Minister.
In the past few days we have stressed to those in leadership
the palpable anger and frustration at what we believe is a
determination which has rewarded those who simply refuse to
engage. This adjudication enshrines the residents groups
veto. This position is not acceptable and cannot be tolerated.
Once again the Parades Commission has demonstrated that it
has no useful role in defining a shared future. On the contrary,
it continues to damage community relations.
Following our consultations, No.9 District will, in the interest
of community relations and society in general, reluctantly
abide by the determination on this occasion.
