Orangemen from Portadown District have met the
DUP leader Peter Robinson to discuss the Garvaghy Road parade.
Local MP David Simpson and DUP Deputy Leader Nigel Dodds
were also at the meeting. The Orange Order delegation was
led by Darryl Hewitt, District Master of Portadown.
A spokesman for the Orangemen said the meeting had been very
constructive. It was clear that the DUP leader recognised
the significant steps taken by the Orange Order in Portadown
and their willingness to meet local residents, even though
this had been thwarted.
The spokesman said the meeting looked at a number of ways
to progress the matter but it would not be helpful at this
stage to go into any further detail.
