The Grand Orange Lodge of Ireland, at a meeting
on Saturday, March 29, expressed "deep concern at the
ongoing and outstanding issues in relation to the future of
education in our schools."
The statement went on:
"We call upon people to become involved in the debate
as it appears that the Christian influence in our schools
could be removed.
"It appears to us that the Minister of
Education's proposals will fail to address the current under-achievement
in state schools.
"We are uneasy with the current situation
and will continue to monitor the issues involved and will
be meeting with politicians, stakeholders and community leaders
in the coming weeks."
