Attack On Newtownbutler Orange Hall

8 February 2008

An attack on Newtownbutler Orange Hall in Co. Fermanagh was disrupted in the early hours of this morning.

Wire grills were pulled off two windows of toughened glass, which were then broken. A third window was being damaged when local people heard the noise just before 1.00am. Paint was also thrown against the front wall of the building.

Co. Fermanagh Grand Master Tom Elliott said it was very deliberate and well organised attack on the hall.

"The people responsible were clearly intent on causing a lot of damage and who knows what would have happened if they had not been disturbed. I have condemned all attacks on property in the area and I would now like the people of Newtownbutler, and their elected representatives, to stand up and make it clear that they are opposed to this latest attack. Anyone who has any information should contact the police immediately."
