The Grand Orange Lodge of Ireland has condemned the prospect
of Sunday football.
In a statement the Grand Lodge said:
"We regret the recent decision by the Irish Football
Association to allow football games to be played on Sunday,
believing this to be a retrograde moral step.
"We call on all our members and all members of the Protestant
community not to attend or play in Sunday football games,
or other sporting activities, and to support those within
football and other sports in Northern Ireland who have stood
up against this move.
"We are of the opinion that decisions such as this simply
demonstrate society's general move towards the secularisation
of Sunday and call for a return to the traditional values
for the Reformed Faith in this regard."
